We are more than half way through April—can you believe it? And Mother’s Day is only a couple weeks away. Have you planned out a gift for the mother in your life? If you’re looking for a unique, crafty DIY Mother’s Day present, I’ve got just the thing. These DIY picture frames are a stunning, yet simple, way to capture a special moment.
Photos are always one of my favorite types of gifts to give! Pictures just make a gift special. So, I decided it would be cool to try my hand at designing my own frames; which turned out to be a blast! Now I not only have some sweet photos to give my mom this year, but some equally thoughtful and unique frames to go with them.
What You Need
- Chip Board
- My Printables/Cut Files
- X-Acto Knife or Cutting Machine
- Mod Podge & Sponge Brush
- Hot Glue
How to Make
1. Cut out the chip board and card stock using either my printable template or your cutting machine. If you are using a Cricut, be sure to use a Deep Cut Blade/Housing. Also, a StrongGrip cutting mat is preferred, but you can simply tape down the edges of the chipboard like I did to keep it in place if all you have is a regular mat handy.
2. Once all of your pieces are cut out, adhere the card stock die cut to the chip board frame using Mod Podge. Use hot glue to attach the stand to the backing.
(Hint: I liked the color of the chip board the way it was, but you could paint it a different color for added effect if you so choose.)
3. Trim your photo if need be, and sandwich it between the frame and the backing. At first, I thought I would just use hot glue for this, but ended up using drafting tape (just in case I want to change the picture out later). You could also use magnets or poster tack for this.
These frames turned out even better than I had hoped, and I think they are going to make a very special gift for Mother’s Day!
Even if you don’t want to make the full, stand-up frame, you could definitely utilize my die cut designs to make a sweet card border, or frame a photo in a scrapbook.
Enjoy the new freebie, and have fun making this super special DIY Mother’s Day gift!
