Cinderella Paper Lantern

A dream is a wish your heart makes, and, today, your wishes are coming true! The newest addition to my Disney Paper Lanterns series is here, and I think you’re going to love it! When I sent out a survey earlier this year to see what Disney film I should base my next paper lantern design on, this one was a SUPER close second. So, without further adieu, I give you the lovely, the enchanting, Cinderella paper lantern!

There are so many iconic scenes from Cinderella—I had the hardest time ever trying to figure out exactly what I wanted to include and how to include it. In the end, I knew I needed at least: (1) adorable mice, (2) a standout glass slipper, (3) a pumpkin carriage, and (4) the Fairy Godmother working her magic to make Cinderella the perfect dress for the ball.

Cinderella Paper Lantern

In the end I got almost everything I wanted. You guys have no idea how hard I tried to work Cinderella’s iconic castle into the design. I wanted it to work, I tried every scale/perspective imaginable; but, in the end, it just wasn’t meant to be. But maybe it’s ok to not to include a castle for once (10 points if you can name the other three paper lantern designs I’ve created that feature a castle).

To learn how to assemble my paper lanterns, see this tutorial.

I use a Cricut Explore to do my die cut designs, and I absolutely love it! For tips on creating this delicate paper cut, see the FAQ section on my website.

Like most all my paper lanterns, removing the final design from your cutting mat is as much of an art as the cut itself. With this one, make sure to take particular care in the “mouse making a dress” scene—that book outline is quite fragile.

Cinderella Paper Lantern

I hope this Cinderella paper lantern is everything you hoped it would be, and that you find it as exquisite as I do! Oh, and remember: if you keep on believing, the dreams that you wish will come true!

The paper lanterns are beautiful. I just found them yesterday and am so excited to try it hopefully tonight! I was wondering if there was anyway you can do a snow white one? My sister loves snow white so I know she would flip if she had one!

Thanks Missy! You aren’t the first to request Lady and the Tramp. I would stay tuned if I were you: I plan to do plenty more of these in the future. 🙂

I almost always use Recollections Cardstock packs. Sometimes I buy it online, but most of the time I either wait for a sale at Michaels or use one of their coupons (makes it easy to build up a stash quick)!

Mandee, I think these are adorable. I want to make the Cinderella one for my BFF for her birthday. I feel stupid asking this…. How do I go about sizing? how many sheets of paper will I need? It looks like you’ve used more than 1. I use the 8.5 x 11 as well…. I looked in your faqs and didn’t see anything there. Can you give me some advice please??

Hi Erin! I just use one sheet of 8.5″x11″ card stock (along with about half a sheet of vellum for the liner) to make one lantern. The file is sized to fit an 8.5″x11″ sheet of paper already, so you shouldn’t need to do any adjusting beforehand. 🙂

Hi it’s me again . So I’m attempting to make my lantern. I think it’s a disaster. Is going to be a test run. Anyway, are there sposed to be score lines for where you fold them?? Cuz I don’t have any. Just wondering if I did something wrong.

    Thanks. 🙂

      Hi Erin,

You didn’t do anything wrong. I don’t include score lines in my SVG files most of the time just because (with custom files like this) it adds an extra step in the set-up process that makes it a little complicated for the average user (plus, it would require you to have the Cricut scoring tool). If you know how to, though, it isn’t hard to add the score lines right in Design Space.

If you line up your folds with the bottom flap, you can tell where to make the creases without too much trouble. 🙂

Your lanterns are INCREDIBLE! I can’t wait to try them out. My daughter wants a Tangled party for her 5th birthday in September so I will definitely use that one. I may just make all of them though, just for the heck of it 🙂
I was wondering though, if you have a Mickey Mouse themed lantern or had any plans to do one? My son’s bedroom is Mickey Mouse and I’m planning his first birthday with the same theme and would love to have some lanterns for that, maybe as center pieces as someone else said they were going to do. Beautiful designs.

Thank you Adan! I’m so happy you like my lanterns!! I don’t have plans for a Mickey Mouse-themed lantern in the immediate future unfortunately. I am toying with the idea of potentially doing some Disneyland Park-themed lanterns later on though, and I know Mickey would definitely make appearance in at least one of those. 🙂

I absolutely love these! Are you planning on doing any other Disney princesses? I am throwing a princess first birthday party for my daughter and would love one of each princess! I already know I am using the ones you already have done for the party. Thank you for sharing them!

Hi Gwen! Thanks so much—I’m glad you like my Disney lanterns. ^_^

I do hope to eventually have one for all the princesses! There are so many fun movies to choose from, though, and these do take me quite a bit of time to design; so I can’t say exactly when I will have them all. Be sure to stay tuned, though! I try to do a new one each month. 🙂

Thank you so much for all of your hard work! These are so beautiful. I made my hubby the Jafar lantern and it was a big hit at his job. His supervisor wants this Cinderella one. I’ve hit a snag, however… Is there supposed to be a liner on this one? I downloaded it and it doesn’t seem to have one in Design Space. Thanks again for the beautiful designs!

      Hi There,

That’s awesome! I’m so glad to hear that you’ve been enjoying my paper lantern designs. Some of my earlier lantern design don’t include a liner just because the tops of the lantern weren’t as complex. For this one, though, I actually did have a liner designed, but didn’t include it, so nice catch! I’ve updated the download to include the liner file now, so enjoy! 🙂

These are so stunning!! I use a Silhouette Portrait instead of a Cricut, and I don’t have the professional version of the software, so I can’t use a PDF or SVG file. Do you by any chance have them as JPEGs? Thank you for all your beautiful work!!

I don’t offer png or jpg versions of my cut files, but feel free to check out this article on how to use SVG files in the free version of your Silhouette program.

Hi Adeline. I apologize, but I don’t have any experience with the Brother Scan ‘N Cut, so I don’t think I can help.
