Brace yourselves—part three of my wonderfully wicked Disney Villain paper lantern series is here! With sinister lines like, “Now, shall you deal with ME, O Prince—and all the powers of HELL,” saying that today’s featured villain is no-nonsense would be an understatement. Feast your eyes on the nefarious necromancer and dreadful dragon in my newest design—this vilely villainous Maleficent paper lantern.
Be sure to check out my other Disney paper lantern designs in this series!
Going from producing one paper lantern design per month to one every week is going to be the death of me. But, despite that, I am so incredibly please with the results. When did my first test-cut with this design, I couldn’t take my eyes off of that dragon—I just LOVE the way it turned out!
And, once I added the green vellum liner, I found even more motivation to keep working on these villains. Don’t get me wrong, I still love all of my princesses, but I think these villain lanterns are climbing their way to the top in regards to my all-time favorites!
To learn how to assemble my paper lanterns, see this tutorial.
Like most all my paper lanterns, removing the final design from your cutting mat is as much of an art as the cut itself, so be sure to go slowly.
These villain lanterns are the first ones I’ve ever used colored vellum with, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. Also, I tried out the new Cricut Premium Fine-Point Blade on these lanterns, and, holy crap, that thing is amazing—my cuts were SO smooth!
(Tip: On my Cricut, I found that, with this particular vellum, the Light Cardstock setting worked better than the custom vellum setting I usually use.)
I’m so excited to finally bring Maleficent to life in this design! She has been a popular request since nearly the inception of my Disney paper lantern series. And this Maleficent paper lantern will definitely make an awesome addition to your Halloween decor this year.
Next week, I’ll be unveiling the final villain in this delightfully despicable series. Who do you think it will be?
