Poor unfortunate souls… October is here, and things around Designs By Miss Mandee are about to take a turn for the villainous (mua ha ha ha)! Each week for the month of October, a new Disney villain will take the stage in their very own paper lantern design; so, make way for the dark side of Disney in your growing collection. Kicking things off is the mischievous sea witch herself! Be careful what you bargain for to get this Ursula paper lantern.

The idea to do a set of Disney Villain Lanterns came about months ago. When I first dreamed up the idea, I quickly decided that each lantern would feature only one villain, and I knew that Ursula absolutely HAD to be one of them. I couldn’t resist creating a lantern with all of her expressive tentacles!
As you’ll notice, this design not only includes Ursula in her sea witch form, but her impish human form as well. This was a concept I later decided to work into my villain lanterns—transformations (hint hint). Funnily enough, creating her human form ended up being a much bigger struggle than her octopus form.

I use a Cricut Explore to do my die cut designs, and I absolutely love it! For tips on creating this delicate paper cut, see the FAQ section on my website.
Like most all my paper lanterns, removing the final design from your cutting mat is as much of an art as the cut itself, so be sure to go slowly.
This is the first time I’ve ever experimented with colored vellum, and I couldn’t be happier with the results!
(Tip: On my Cricut, I found that, with this particular vellum, the Light Cardstock setting worked better than the custom vellum setting I usually use.)

October 11, 2017 at 11:51 pm (7 years ago)Hi Chante! SVG files can be scaled to whatever dimensions you would like. These are currently set to fit 8.5″x11″ sheets of paper (each panel being about 2.5″ wide). Hope that helps!
