Are you ready to get crafty? I thought so. Learn how to make glitter play dough that not only looks good, but smells good too! Plus, find out about my secret weapon for messy DIYs and download some cute tags.
My mom use to make this play dough for me all the time when I was a kid! I always loved helping here knead the dough while it was warm and smelling the Kool-Aid! For this play dough, I added a little touch of sparkle to my mom’s recipe.
Ingredients
3 C. Flour
1 C. Salt
5 Tbl. Alum (Cream of tartar works too)
1 tsp. Baking Powder
1 Packet of Kool-Aid (any color)
Glitter (I used about 1.5 ounces)
2 3/4 C. Water
1/3 C. Vegetable Oil
Combine all dry ingredients (flour, salt, alum, baking powder, Kool-Aid, and glitter) in a medium sized pot. Boil water and add it to the dry mixture along with the vegetable oil. Stir rapidly over medium heat until dough forms a ball. Turn onto counter top, let cool, and knead dough. Store in a plastic container or saran wrap in the refrigerator.
Getting crafty can be a blast! But you know what isn’t as much fun—the mess. I loathe the cleanup process! By the time I’m done making something awesome, the last thing I want to do is wipe down my countertops again. That’s why Glad Press’n Seal is my new secret weapon for messy DIYs. Just pick it up at your local Walmart, and get crafting! It keeps your countertops nice and clean without slipping. It’s awesome for kneading play dough! And, when you’re done, wrapping your dough in Glad Press’n Seal and storing it in the fridge will keep it nice and fresh.
Want to spread the glitter play dough love? It makes a fun little gift for a primary class, or your kids’ friends! Print off these cute tags as the final touch!
Hope your kids enjoy the play dough (or if the play dough is just for you, that’s cool too—I don’t judge).
Happy Crafting!
