It’s time to show the mom(s) in your life how much you care, because this weekend is Mother’s Day! And, if you’re still looking for something to add to your DIY card, gift, or photo, these Mother’s Day overlays are just the thing. Put the finishing touches on your special present with one of these cute, hand drawn motifs.
Things like this are such an easy way to make something unique and fun. Even if you just add a little hand drawn embellishment to a note you typed up in Microsoft Word, it can make all the difference.
When it comes to moms/motherly figures, I pretty much won the jackpot! I’ve got an awesome, caring mother-in-law, a hand-working, thoughtful grandmother, and a mother that is beyond inspirational.
My mom’s number one priority has always been us—her family (particularly her kids). She almost never gets things for herself, and is always making sure everyone is doing ok (no small task considering she has ten kids between the ages of 2 and 24).
When I was in elementary school, I was part of an accelerated program. I excelled in multiple subjects, but by second grade my reading skills were really lacking. Not only was I not meeting the standards for the program I was in, but I wasn’t even reading at grade level.
I tried and tried to get my reading level up to what was needed, but I just couldn’t comprehend the books I read well enough. By third grade, they told my mom that if my reading skills didn’t improve, I would be kicked out of the program. That night, after all the other kids were in bed, my mom pulled out Harry Potter; a book I had been trying to read but was way past my level of comprehension, and began reading to me.
Every night for the next year, my mom would read to me. Miraculously, my reading level improved! Even though I was technically reading less than before, having my mom read to me dramatically increased my level of comprehension, and I was able to stay in the program.
I’ll never forget how special that was for me. My mom has always had a lot on her plate, but she made sure to take the time to read to me each and every night. Now, I have an insatiable appetite for books! I always have to be reading something, or else I feel like something is missing in my life.
So, this Mother’s Day, don’t forget to take some time out for the woman/women who took time for you! And right now, I’ve got some books to pick up from the library.
