Pirates of the Caribbean Paper Lantern

“Dead men tell no tales.” Well, if that phrase doesn’t give away the theme of today’s freebie, I don’t know what will. If you’re a fan of pirates, plunder, and, of course, Johnny Depp, this design is definitely for you! Get ready to set sail for Tortuga, because my Pirates of the Caribbean paper lantern is here.

When thinking of possible Disney lantern themes, Pirates of the Caribbean wasn’t one of the first ones to come to mind; but, when my husband, and a few other readers, suggested it, I just knew I had to make it happen! I wanted this design to be based mostly on the movie, but also be reminiscent of the classic ride: that’s why I made sure to include the scene with the jailed pirates trying to lure the dog with the key. While this event did occur in the movie, it definitely reminds me more of the Disneyland ride.

Speaking of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, did you hear about how Johnny Depp surprised guests by appearing in full costume and interacting with them as they passed by last week? Can you imagine!? The funny thing is: two years ago from last week, we were in Disney World, and one year ago from last week we were in Disneyland. So, I told my husband, if we had continued the trend, we could have potentially seen Johnny Depp on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride! Maybe next April…

To learn how to assemble my paper lanterns, see this tutorial.

I use a Cricut Explore to do my die cut designs, and I absolutely love it! For tips on creating this delicate paper cut, see the FAQ section on my website.

Like most all my paper lanterns, removing the final design from your cutting mat is as much of an art as the cut itself. With this one, make sure to take particular care with the panel depicting the piece of eight coin—the design gets pretty intricate there.

The lantern design is FREE! You can download the cut file using the link in the post, and then use a cutting machine to create the design. 🙂

Hi! Thank you so much for these great paper lantern patterns! I just cut Beauty and the Beast and it came out perfect and looks wonderful! Do you the “liner” pattern for this as well ?

Thanks Robin! Glad to hear it!!

I didn’t start including liner designs in my downloads until later on, but I do plan on going back and adding some to my original lantern designs (as soon as I find the time). 🙂

Is the liner needed? I haven’t tried these yet but planned on trying the Little mermaid one and I noticed not all have a liner.

The liner is not necessary if you don’t want to use it—it’s just preference. I didn’t include liners in some of my older files simply because the tops of those design weren’t as intricate, and I use to just cut out a rectangle of vellum by hand. I plan to add liner files to those download eventually: I just need to find the time. 🙂
