“I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream.” Well, you’re not just dreaming today—I’ve got a new Disney paper lantern design I’ve been hard at work on, and I can’t wait to share it with you today! The long awaited Sleeping Beauty paper lantern is here! Experience the magical, iconic moment of true love’s kiss in this stunning new design.
Be sure to check out my other Disney paper lantern designs in this series!
Aurora was my favorite princess when I was a little girl. I remember when we went to Disneyland for the first time, I was so excited to meet her! Can you tell?
And even though I would later become more obsessed with Belle and Megara (because they have brown hair, like me), I still have a special place in my heart for Sleeping Beauty.
This design is a little different than most of my other ones. For the top of the lantern, I decided to design a pattern reminiscent of a particular object related to this princess. See if you can discover what that might be! I also tried to mimic the archways from the castle in the movie in the way the top of the lantern and the windows are shaped. Overall, I like the subtle way this design calls to the Sleeping Beauty story and imagery.
To learn how to assemble my paper lanterns, see this tutorial.
I use a Cricut Explore to do my die cut designs, and I absolutely love it! For tips on creating this delicate paper cut, see the FAQ section on my website.
Like most all my paper lanterns, removing the final design from your cutting mat is as much of an art as the cut itself, so be sure to go slowly.
If you missed it last week, be sure to check out my new set of Disney Princess silhouettes as well (which includes, you guessed it: Sleeping Beauty)!
Enjoy my latest Disney creation! What plans do you have for this lovely, Sleeping Beauty paper lantern?

September 24, 2017 at 8:08 am (7 years ago)You are just as sweet as your picture! Thank you so much for sharing your hard work. Such a clever idea incorporating a little Disney fantasy into a lantern. It would be so cute in a girls room. I don’t have any little girls, so I will have to make it for a friend.

September 29, 2017 at 8:57 am (7 years ago)Yes, I believe you need the designer edition on Silhouette Studio to directly import SVG files. There is a workaround, though. You can find it here.

October 10, 2017 at 11:38 pm (7 years ago)I love the Disney Princess lanterns. I have 2 granddaughters who are obsessed with the princesses! This will make a nice surprise nightlight when we visit them. One thing I especially like which I haven’t seen in other artist’s lantern is the bottom piece. This will make it more durable for little hands. Thanks for all your hard work and willingness to share.

December 31, 2017 at 12:21 am (7 years ago)Thank you so much for your wonderful designs! Although I’m no longer a little girl I still love having my old childhood companions around. Especially when they are so beautifully designed as yours. Is there a way I could donate (maybe via Paypal) so you could keep up your awesome work?
Many thanks and greetings from Germany …

February 3, 2020 at 1:34 pm (5 years ago)What size paper are you cutting this out of? And about how big is the lantern?
And all your lanterns look amazing! My daughter is having a fairy tale murder mystery party and we’re going to make these!
Mandee
February 4, 2020 at 8:23 am (5 years ago)Hi Karissa! I make all of my lanterns out of 8.5″x11″ paper, and they come out to be 2.5″ square and roughly 4″ tall. 🙂
Have fun planning that party—sounds like fun!

July 2, 2023 at 11:54 am (1 year ago)Hi, these are beautiful. Was just wondering, I have a Joy and with the base, the image is too large. As it’s welded I can’t separate the base (so that I can retain the lantern size) – is there a way to do this or am I being stupid?
Mandee
July 3, 2023 at 11:55 am (1 year ago)Hi Madeleine! It’s not a perfect method, but you can slice my designs if you’d like to use them with your Cricut Joy machine. The design would be missing some attachment tabs in the places that get sliced, but it is an option if you want to avoid scaling down the design. I don’t have a tutorial on the process at the moment, but I did find this article that might be helpful to you: https://sarahmaker.com/slice-cricut-design-space/

July 10, 2023 at 1:00 pm (1 year ago)Thanks so much for getting back to me. I managed to remove the base in Gimp (I am not so great at slicing yet) and then was able to do it on my Joy. I put a little battery powered tea light in it, and it will be a gift for my friend’s daughter who is Sleeping Beauty nuts!
