Jafar Paper Lantern – Disney Villain Paper Lantern Series

Welcome to the second installment in my Disney villain paper lantern series! Inspired by the power-hungry evil sorcerer from one of my very favorite childhood Disney movies, today’s design is the perfect addition to your Halloween collection. Behold the odious occultist, the execrable enchanter, the miscreant magician, and, of course, his feathered friend Iago in this one-of-a-kind Jafar paper lantern!

Be sure to check out my other Disney paper lantern designs in this series!

I have been beyond excite to create a “snake Jafar,” and I am thrilled with the result! Last week, when I shared my Ursula lantern, I talked about deciding which villains to bring to life through this new series based on “transformations.” Ursula has her human form and sea witch form: Jafar has his human (sorcerer) form and his snake form (he technically has a genie form as well, but I decided to stick to just the former two manifestations for this design).

Even in his human form, Jafar has a lot of fun, unique characteristics: he’s tall and slender, with an accentuated neck, and large, puffy hat. So, even though I spent most of my time getting the details of the snake just right, I thoroughly enjoyed the process of creating his “regular” bad-guy self as well!

To learn how to assemble my paper lanterns, see this tutorial.

I use a Cricut Explore to do my die cut designs, and I absolutely love it! For tips on creating this delicate paper cut, see the FAQ section on my website.

Like most all my paper lanterns, removing the final design from your cutting mat is as much of an art as the cut itself, so be sure to go slowly.

These villain lanterns are the first ones I’ve ever used colored vellum with, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. Also, I tried out the new Cricut Premium Fine-Point Blade on these lanterns, and, holy crap, that thing is amazing—my cuts were SO smooth!

(Tip: On my Cricut, I found that, with this particular vellum, the Light Cardstock setting worked better than the custom vellum setting I usually use.)

Enjoy this wonderfully wicked Jafar paper lantern design! Who do you predict will make their devilish debut next week?

Sadly, the colored vellum link is broken. I think that store went out of business or quit selling the colored vellum. Is there some place else to purchase it from?

I know, I’m so disappointed that they aren’t selling it anymore. There are packs of colored vellum on Amazon, but it’s pretty difficult to just buy one color.

Hi Mandee, your designs are AMAZING! By chance do you have a paper lantern design for The Emperor’s New Groove?

Thank you! I don’t have an Emperor’s New Groove lantern design at the moment, but I will definitely consider it. 🙂
