I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! And now it’s officially time for the Christmas frenzy to begin—buying presents, sending cards, planning parties, baking yummy treats! But, before we get too wrapped up in all the material things that will inevitably find their way to the forefront of our holiday celebrations, I wanted to spread the word about the Light the World campaign. Read on to find out what this initiative is all about, and download your own Light the World advent cards.
Light the World is something The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints started last year as a way to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ by serving others during the Christmas season. Basically, it takes all the days in December, leading up to Christmas, and provides you with ideas and activities you can do as an individual or family in order to emulate Christ’s life and remember him. There are bigger project ideas (like organizing a neighborhood gift-giving effort for a family in need), and smaller ones (like calling a family member to tell them that you love them), but it’s ultimately up to you to decide how you want to implement the ideas given.
Our congregation is making an effort to promote this campaign and integrate it into our lives this month. I was in charge of designing some cards to display the scripture passages and project ideas listed on the website, and I thought I’d share it with all of you as well! Last week, along with some other members of my ward, I made this cute little display board to post my Light the World advent cards each day.
To make these display boards, we used:
- Reclaimed Wood
- A Dark Wood Stain
- Small Wood Pedestals
- White Paint
- A Small Wood Clip
- Wood Glue
Start this holiday season off right by thinking of others and drawing closer to The Savior! What do you and your family plan to do this month in order to #LightTheWorld?
