Now that the winter holidays have come to a close, it’s back to dreaming of summer for me! I’m pining for the long hours of sunlight, the warmth, and swimming. So, for today’s freebie, I decided to create something unique and that positively screams SUMMER. Embrace your inner sea maiden by making this delicate, lovely die cut mermaid.
What little girl hasn’t dreamt of being a mermaid? I remember playing “mermaids” every time I went swimming with my cousins. It felt like a really original idea at the time…even though I now realize that every other little girl has done literally the exact same thing.
I love all the possibilities with this die cut! Even though there is only one mermaid design included in the download, the customization options are endless! Make a mermaid as unique as you are by choosing your own tail, skin, and hair color using different colors of cardstock. And I’ve even included a couple little hair accessories you can try out as well.
All you need to make these lovely mermaids is:
- Colored Cardstock
- A Cutting Machine (Like a Cricut or Silhouette)
- Glue
If you don’t have a cutting machine, I have included a printable PDF template you can use to trace and cut your pieces out by hand. Also included in the download is a cute little sea horse and a seashell die cut…I just forgot to include them in the photographs (facepalm).
I think these mermaids would be awesome for a little girl’s birthday party: either as decorations or to make as a group craft! I know I would have loved to make a paper mermaid version of myself as a young girl. Heck, I enjoyed doing it now! Can you tell which one is “me?”
Have fun using my die cut mermaid file to make some lovely creations of your own! What plans to do have for these fun designs?

How do you load these in your Silhouette, mine says “format not supported”?

If you’re using a Sihouette, you’ll need to get the Designer Edition in order to use SVG files. If you don’t want to do that though, I usually direct Silhouette users to this blog post for a workaround. 🙂
