In regards to today’s freebie: What can I say except you’re welcome? The newest addition to my Disney Paper Lantern Collection is here! The perfect thing for your islander party or gift for the person in your house who won’t stop belting out “If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me. One day I’ll know, if I go there’s just no telling how far I’ll go…” Set sail with this awesome Moana paper lantern.
Moana was one of the first movies we took our three-year old to see in the theater. I was surprised how much he enjoyed it! He seemed to follow the story pretty well, and enjoyed the singing. He thought the scene with the crab was a little scary, though.
Like always, it was difficult to decide exactly what I wanted to depict in this design. Since this movie is all about adventure and exploration, I wanted to make sure to feature Moana on her boat (with her trusty side-kicks, of course). I also thought it would be fun to include some stylized shapes on the top to mimic Maui’s tattoos.
To learn how to assemble my paper lanterns, see this tutorial.
I use a Cricut Explore to do my die cut designs, and I absolutely love it! For tips on creating this delicate paper cut, see the FAQ section on my website.
Like most all my paper lanterns, removing the final design from your cutting mat is as much of an art as the cut itself, so be sure to go slowly.
Have fun putting this super cool Moana paper lantern together! Young or old, it’s sure to bring a smile to anyone’s face.

January 27, 2018 at 6:08 am (6 years ago)My adult daughter and I love the Disney movies, and Moana was an amazing addition to the Disney lineup. Your lanterns are superb, all of them. People are always shocked to learn I made them! A tip that bears repeating (did I hear it from you?) is after cutting, to flip the mat over and remove the mat from the project, rather than lifting the project from the mat. It protects the delicate cuts. Thank you for honoring this beautiful movie and sharing your talent!

January 29, 2018 at 8:37 am (6 years ago)Thanks so much for your comment! It’s so nice to hear that people like you continue to enjoy my designs (especially my paper lantern series)! Keep impressing your friends and family members with your craftiness!! 😀
Yes, that is a crucial tip! I should add it to me FAQ section. I always do that when I peel my designs off the mat, but you’re right, it’s absolutely necessary for fine cuts like these!
