Oh boy! I’ve got a new, fun Disney design to share with all of you today that I know you’re going to love. Today’s addition to my ongoing Disney Paper Lantern series features the head mouse himself along with his trusty gang. Get ready for a whole lot of fun with this Mickey and pals paper lantern!
This has been a popular request lately! I’ve been focusing on designing lanterns featuring most of the princesses, so it’s probably about time I showed a little love to Walt Disney’s original key players.
I’ve always loved Mickey Mouse! Meeting him when we went to Disneyland was always a highlight of our family trips. I remember meeting “Sorcerer Mickey” one time and then always hoping he would be dressed up in his sorcerer robes again. Out of all the Mickey and friends gang, though, I think Goofy is my favorite. He was the one that always made me laugh! I watched The Goofy Movie probably 1,000 times as a kid. Even now, the song After Today makes me smile!
To learn how to assemble my paper lanterns, see this tutorial.
I use a Cricut Explore to do my die cut designs, and I absolutely love it! For tips on creating this delicate paper cut, see the FAQ section on my website.
Like most all my paper lanterns, removing the final design from your cutting mat is as much of an art as the cut itself, so be sure to go slowly.
Whether you’re planning a Disney-themed birthday party or are looking for ways to get your kids excited for an upcoming trip to Disneyland, this Mickey and pals paper lantern is just what you need! Have fun putting it together! And, as always, feel free to share pictures of your lovely creations with me.

March 16, 2018 at 12:14 pm (6 years ago)Hi Luisa! Unfortunately I don’t have any experience with Silhouette machines, so I can’t say for sure why you are having that issue. You could try saving the file with a different extension (like png) and see if that helps. Sorry, I’m sorry I can’t be much help!

June 24, 2018 at 3:12 pm (5 years ago)Mandee, thank you for sharing your talents with us. I had some difficulty with the paper cutting cleanly, so i opted to use vinyl. I wish i could show you the outcome. I love it! Thank you again!

February 26, 2023 at 7:37 am (7 months ago)HI Mandee — I have loved your designs now for a while and have just ventured into trying to make the MIckey Lantern. The top of MIckey’s hand and Goofy’s head did not cut cleanly – any suggestions? I have a Cricut and a new blade in the machine.
What weight paper do you use and what setting do you use?
Mandee
March 1, 2023 at 10:32 am (7 months ago)Sorry you are having trouble! I use 65 lb cardstock most of the time, but honestly, the brand of paper can make a big difference too. I was just cutting something out yesterday that got super torn up, even though the design wasn’t overly complicated. I switched to a different brand of paper (same settings, blade, and everything), and it cut perfectly! For plain, colored paper, I highly recommend the Recollections cardstock from Michael’s!
