Welcome to another video tutorial by your’s truly! Today’s tutorial topic comes from a Facebook pole I threw out a little while ago to see what everyone is most interested in learning about. So, come along with me as I take a project from start to finish highlighting your topic of choice: design tips for making stencils!

Compound Path

Object>Compound Path>Make

Shortcut: ⌘8

 

Outline Type

Type>Create Outlines

 

Minus Front

Window>Pathfinder>Minus Front

 

Unite

Window>Pathfinder>Unite

Once you get the hang of thinking with the end product of a stencil in mind, your options are just about endless! And the great thing about stencils is that, if made out of the proper material, you can use them again and again.

I like to use a thin, craft plastic like this one whenever I’m doing stencil designs, but you can also use vinyl or chipboard if you prefer.
