Star Wall Hanging – DIY Nursery Decor

Twinkle twinkle little star… I’m so excited to share my latest DIY project with all of you today! Like I mentioned in one of my last posts, I am days away from welcoming a baby girl into the Thomas family. So, I wanted to make a little something special for her, and this is what I came up with. See how I made this fun little star wall hanging, and what significance it has for our baby girl.

Ever since I told him that I was pregnant, my oldest son (age 5), was really excited about the idea of being a big brother again! He started giving my belly lots of hugs and kisses, and even came up with a nickname for the baby—Star Star.

Every night, he would pray for baby Star Star and give Star Star a hug. And if he tossed coins into a pond/fountain, he would make a wish for baby Star Star.

So, for the past few months, I’ve been wracking my brain to try and figure out how I could make something special for our baby that could pay homage to the nickname her big brother gave her. And that’s where this star wall hanging came in!

How to Make

1. If you have a Cricut Maker and a Knife Blade, you can use my SVG template to cut out your chip board pieces. Otherwise, you can utilize the printable PDF included in the download to trace and cut out your pieces with an X-ACTO knife.

2. Use your twine or fishing line to hang the stars at varying intervals on your hoop. Hang a star from the top as well.

Note: I just hot glued my stars to the string, but I’ve also included a version in the download that has holes in each of the stars if you’d prefer to tie them.

3. Use hot glue to attach the moon shape to your hoop, and you’re finished!

Isn’t it so cute!? I decided to leave my chip board as-is for a more rustic feel, but you could definitely have some fun with painting or mod podging your pieces as well!

I use Adobe Illustrator for all of my designs, and a Cricut Maker to bring my creations to life. For tips on creating fun paper cuts like this one, see the FAQ section on my website. Also, be sure to check out the other baby-related freebies available on my blog!

Enjoy making your own version of my star wall hanging! Do you know anyone else who is expecting a baby soon?
