If only you knew the power of the Dark Side. The long awaited addition to my Disney Paper Lanterns series is here! So, today, join the dark side of the force, and feast you eyes on this Star Wars paper lantern (dark side edition).
I have been asked about doing a Star Wars lantern design more times than I can count. But, when I started sketching out ideas for it, I just knew I wouldn’t be able to fit everything I wanted onto just one lantern. So, I decided to separate my design ideas and do a “light side” and “dark side” piece. And, of course, if you’re going to start somewhere, you start with the dark side—am I right?
Not going to lie, I’ve always thought the Star Wars “bad guys” were cooler than the “good guys.” When I was in first grade, I had a Darth Maul folder for my school work: just a close-up of his scary red/black face and yellow eyes—it was rad! And now, as an adult, I’m a total Kylo Ren fangirl.
My son must have inherited my love for the “bad guys,” because he shows no interest in any non-robotic hero/heroine in the Star Wars series, but absolutely loves anyone with a black cloak and red lightsaber.
To learn how to assemble my paper lanterns, see this tutorial.
I use Adobe Illustrator for all of my designs, and a Cricut Maker to bring my creations to life. For tips on creating fun paper cuts like this one, see the FAQ section on my website.
Like most all my paper lanterns, removing the final design from your cutting mat is as much of an art as the cut itself, so be sure to go slowly. If you run into any trouble, be sure to check out this video for more tips!
Enjoy channeling your inner dark side with this Star Wars paper lantern! Who is your favorite “bad guy” from the Star Wars series?
