Over-the-top: that’s how I would describe today’s project! I had so much fun making this elaborate craft, and I hope you will too. Gather up some cardstock, decorative gems, and all the fancy ribbon you can find, because, today, we’re making a Venetian mask!

I went a little nuts with the decorative elements on this one! Basically, I went to the craft store and told my kids to help me find anything and everything gold.
The fun thing about this project, though, is that you can make it as refined or as over-the-top as you’d like.
Note: If you do add a lot of elements to the headpiece, it might help to add another mask piece to the back, in order to reinforce the whole project.
A couple of weeks ago, my Mother-in-law was kind enough to watch the kids while my husband and I took off to Las Vegas to celebrate our 9th anniversary. We had SO much fun! We went to a couple of shows, visited Omega Mart (which I would highly recommend), ate some great food, and, of course, took in the sights.
I always love walking the strip and checking out the different hotels and their theming. We especially loved The Venetian! The architecture outside was incredible, and the ambiance inside was astounding. We even took a romantic gondola ride where we were serenaded by our gondolier!
Hopefully, one day, I’ll be able to visit the real Venice: but, for now, this was a fun little taste.
While we visited The Venetian, I was inspired by the beautiful masks they had on display in some of the shops. So much so that I thought it would be a fun challenge to try and design my own.
I use Adobe Illustrator for all of my designs, and a Cricut Maker to bring my creations to life. For tips on creating fun paper cuts like this one, see the FAQ section on my website. Also, be sure to check out the other fun freebies available on my blog!
