I started working on these designs a couple of weeks ago. When it came time to take the photos, though,  I knew that I couldn’t really showcase these cake toppers properly without, well, a cake. Instead of baking a cake, I thought, why not just make a cake from paper?

And that’s why I wound up designing, creating, and sharing my 3D paper cake project!

Now, I’m excited to be sharing the lovely little toppers that inspired that design.

I have seen so many awesome, creative, cake topper creations online lately! So, I thought I’d share some that could be used universally, no matter the theme of the party. I’ve included each of the numbers (0 – 9) in the design, and you can customize the paper colors and shaker pieces however you’d like!

Besides cardstock, you will need Dura-Lar film, some small beads/confetti, foam tape, and a lollipop stick in order to make this project.

I use Adobe Illustrator for all of my designs, and a Cricut Maker to bring my creations to life. For tips on creating fun paper cuts like this one, see the FAQ section on my website. Also, be sure to check out the other fun freebies available on my blog!

Enjoy putting my number cake toppers together. And don’t forget to share your lovely finished project with me on Instagram!

Hello, which of the layers is the acetate/clear plastic film? do you have a tutorial video or written? Its not too obvious for me. Which layer would you add the lollipop stick to keep it sturdy?
    Thanks for another great project!

The light blue layer is the one I use for the plastic film, and I placed the lollipop stick between the two identical backing layers. 🙂

Each number has 6 layers. Two base layers (colored paper), then a Dura-lar layer, a thick outline layer, a medium outline layer, and a thin outline layer on top. 🙂

Use foam tape to give the bottom-most layers more dimension and to add beads/confetti in between the base layers and the clear, Dura-lar one.

    Hi Mandee,
Do you have a matching alphabet shaker cake topper?
