Halloween is fast approaching, and I’ve got one last spooky creation to share with you this season. Set your vanity aside, because you won’t want to gaze too deeply into this cursed mirror!

Sometimes I have a project I’ve been thinking about for quite a while before I get a chance to make it: other times, an idea pops into my head, seemingly out of nowhere, and I just run with it. This project is the latter.
I can’t quite remember what inspired me to create this design. Maybe it’s because I’ve been dreaming about getting a decorative mirror for my home…which will have to wait. Have you seen how expensive large mirrors are? But I do know that I’ve always loved elegantly designed hand mirrors! So, when the thought of designing my own hand mirror came to me, I knew it was something I had to try! And, since it is spooky season, after all, why not put a Halloween twist on it?
I had a lot of fun sketching out this initial design! It was hard to narrow down my ideas, but I decided to keep the focal point on the bat as a handle. I still wanted to include another bat, though; so, if you flip the mirror over, you’ll find another winged friend! Also, because of the complicated relationship vampires have with mirrors, I thought the bats were an especially fitting Halloween design element.
I use Adobe Illustrator for all my designs, and a Cricut Maker to bring my creations to life. For tips on creating fun paper cuts like this one, see the FAQ section on my website. Also, be sure to check out the other Halloween freebies available on my blog!
I just used some fun, metallic paper for the “mirror” portion of this project; but, if you wanted to use an actual mirror for that part and make it functional, you could. Or, using some kind of holographic image would also be really cool!
Enjoy making this cursed mirror! And, as always, be sure to share your frightful results with me on Instagram.

October 12, 2022 at 5:51 pm (5 months ago)Thanks for the project. The lines are really fine and not use to working with them. Would like better if the fine lines were just a hair thicker. Wasn’t sure how to put together but make it work. Grand kids love this.
