Ever since I designed some intricate, die cut skulls a few years back, I’ve wanted to make my own papel picado banner. In the past, I’ve been so caught up with Halloween projects that I just couldn’t find the time to make them; but, this year, I changed that!

The high school that my husband teaches at always puts on a really nice Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration. There are awesome performers, fun activities, and the students make a beautiful ofrenda as part of it all. It’s something that we really enjoy taking the kids to, and I love that we get to take part in a holiday celebration that I didn’t always grow up with.
These banner designs were really fun to make! It’s always a special treat to see detailed designs like these come to life when my Cricut is through with them.
I use Adobe Illustrator for all my designs, and a Cricut Maker to bring my creations to life. For tips on creating fun paper cuts like this one, see the FAQ section on my website. Also, be sure to check out the other fun freebies available on my blog!
Enjoy making this Day of the Dead banner for yourself! And, as always, be sure to share your finished results with me on Instagram.
