3D Grand Piano
Materials
- Cardstock
- Hot Glue
- Precision Craft Glue or a Glue Stick
- Foam Tape Optional
- Bone Folder Optional
- Decorative Beads Optional
- A Cutting Machine or X-ACTO knife
- My Free Template
Instructions
- Use your cutting machine or X-ACTO knife, along with my template, to cut out all of your 3D grand piano pieces.Note: If you are using the SVG files that includes the score lines, don't forget to set them as such in Cricut Design Space and attach them to their shapes before sending them through your cutting machine. I used a lime green color to mark the score lines, so hopefully that helps! If you're having trouble with the score lines, check out this video.
Assembling the Exterrior of the Piano
- Layer together your 2, decorative gold pieces on top of the corresponding white pieces, like so. I also added some gold lines to some of my pieces using a paint marker, which is completely optional.
- Gather all of your piano leg pieces. Take the three long, rectangular pieces and fold along all of the score lines.Attach the slightly larger tab to the “foot” of one of the leg pieces. Then, begin to attach each of the little tabs along the curved edges of the leg. Attach another leg piece to the tabs on the opposite side.Repeat the process with the other two legs.Note: a couple of the legs will have three sides with tabs on top, and one side that has a decorative element that will attach to the side of the piano later on. One leg will just have four little tabs on the top when complete.
- Gather all of the pieces you will need for your foot pedals.Use the three little slits in the rectangle piece to slip your pedals into and adhere to the inside. Insert the bottom tab of the curved post into the corresponding slit in the rectangle piece (just above the pedals).Fold the rectangle piece along the score lines, and form it into a box.
- Take your bottom piano piece and use the slits to line up and attach the three legs, along with the foot pedal piece. Ensure that the two legs that include a decorative top go on the left and right sides of the piano.Take your top piano piece and insert the music rack into the slit provided. Glue down.
- Gather your two long, white, rectangular pieces that will be used for the sides of the piano. Fold all of the tabs inward.Use the longest tab to attach the left side to the bottom piano piece. Glue the smaller tabs around the beginning of the curved edge as well. Attach the next side piece where you left off and finish working your way around the curved edges of the piano, attaching the tabs as you go.
Assembling the Interior of the Piano
- Take your purple pieces and fold along the score lines.Fold each of the three, straight sides inward and attach them together. Then, attach the long piece with the small tabs along the curved edge.
- Next, layer the silver and gold interior pieces on top of the purple section. Use foam tape to attach if you’d like to give the layers more depth. Then, add some glue to the walls of the purple section and slip the whole thing inside the body of your piano.
Final Assembly & Finishing Touches
- Take the front piano piece and fold along the score lines so that it forms a “stair step” shape.Use the tabs to attach the whole thing to the front of the piano.Use foam tape to attach the piano keys on top of the front portion.
- Add your decorative panel piece to the inside of the top board. Attach the top board to the body of the piano using the three slits on the left side. Glue down.Next, attach the prop pole to the right side of the piano (wherever you would like). Then, attach the top piano piece to all of the tabs around the perimeter of the piano.Add any decorative beads or other embellishments that you’d like, and your 3D grand piano is complete!

I was honestly blown away by how lovely this project came out! I really wanted this design to feel elegant and special. I was about to use plain, pearlescent white paper for the exterior; but, at the last minute, I remember that I had purchased some pretty, textured paper in the past. I am so glad that I was able to finally put that paper to good use!
If you are curious, the paper I used for the exterior of this project came from the Blanc Boutique paper pack by The Paper Studio (found at Hobby Lobby).
I use Adobe Illustrator for all my designs, and a Cricut Maker to bring my creations to life. For tips on creating fun paper cuts like this one, see the FAQ section on my website. Also, be sure to check out the other fun freebies available on my blog!
Enjoy making this 3D grand piano for yourself! And, as always, be sure to share your finished results with me on Instagram.

April 28, 2023 at 10:28 am (7 months ago)I love this, but I’m a tad confused. In the keyboard, are the keys separated by scoring or cutting? Please helpk!

April 28, 2023 at 3:32 pm (7 months ago)Those should be set as “draw” lines. 🙂
But if you don’t have a pen attachment for your Cricut, then you can delete them and draw the lines in by hand.

Thanking you in advance,

May 12, 2023 at 3:34 am (7 months ago)I just love this piano, everything seems to go together, except I am having a hard time with the legs. Just can.t get them together and hints or suggestions. Picture is not big enough for me to see and Instagram video is too fast.
Thank you for all of your files, love them

May 15, 2023 at 1:04 pm (7 months ago)The legs are a little bit tricky. My biggest suggestion would be to start with the bottom (foot) side first. And make sure that the side with the decorative part on top is on the correct side. Once the bottom tab is attached, you can start working your way around the sides of the leg.

June 22, 2023 at 2:31 pm (6 months ago)I recently did this project because I wanted to challenge myself. It wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be, and really enjoyed making it. I gifted it to someone who has a love of piano. Thanks so much for challenging my skills!
