Sushi Box Papercraft
Materials
- Cardstock
- Precision Craft Glue or a Glue Stick
- Bone Folder optional
- A Cutting Machine or X-ACTO knife
- My Free Template
Instructions
- Use your cutting machine or X-ACTO knife, along with my template, to cut out all of your sushi box pieces.Note: If you are using the SVG files that includes the score lines, don’t forget to set them as such in Cricut Design Space and attach them to their shapes before sending them through your cutting machine. I used a lime green color to mark the score lines, so hopefully that helps! If you’re having trouble with the score lines, check out this video.
Assembling the Main Box
- Start by layering your 5 decorative panels on the outside of your shushi box. Then, fold along the score lines and glue the tabs to the interior of the sides.Next, take your two interior wall rectangles and glue them together (but don’t add any glue to the tabs yet). Flare the tabs outward and glue the wall to the center of the box (3⅛” in from the sides).
Assembling the Mini Sushi Boxes
- Take one of your black, miniature sushi box pieces and fold along all of the score lines. Attach the tab on the opposite end of the box to connect the sides. Then, fold the four bottom flaps inward, starting with the largest piece first, then the two angled sides, and finishing by tucking in the little flap on the triangular side—no glue needed. For the top, fold the little rectangular side inward and use the slit in the middle to allow the top flap to close.Repeat the process with the rest of the boxes.
- Layer the pieces of your sushi together like so, and draw on some cute little faces.Attach the three larger pieces of sushi to the rectangular boxes and attach the six smaller pieces of sushi to the square boxes.Fill your little boxes with goodies, arrange the sushi nicely inside your main box, and you’ve got yourself an extra special, totally unique gift!

If you have a sushi fan in your life, then this project is calling your name! It’s adorable, it doesn’t require that many supplies, and it’s pretty easy to make too. And just think of all the fun, itty bitty treats and trinkets that you could gift within those little sushi boxes. I can’t speak for everyone, but I know I would be over the moon if I received a gift box like this!
I use Adobe Illustrator for all my designs, and a Cricut Maker to bring my creations to life. For tips on creating fun paper cuts like this one, see the FAQ section on my website. Also, be sure to check out the other fun freebies available on my blog!
