English Garden Paper Lantern

Learn how to assemble this sophisticated little luminary.

Materials

Instructions

  • Use your cutting machine or X-ACTO knife, along with my template, to cut out all of the pieces for your English garden paper lantern.
Note: If you are using the SVG files that includes the score lines, don't forget to set them as such in Cricut Design Space and attach them to their shapes before sending them through your cutting machine. I used a lime green color to mark the score lines, so hopefully that helps! If you're having trouble with the score lines, check out this video.

Layering Your Pieces

  • Start by lining the interior of your lantern windows with your vellum pieces.
Next, attach the trellises, fences, plants, and other decorative pieces to the outside of the lantern walls.

Assembling the Lantern

  • Next, take your two lantern sections and fold along the score lines. It will also help to curl the piece inward as well.
Then, attach the two pieces together by gluing the long tabs to the inside walls.
Use hot glue to attach the little tabs on the roof pieces to the adjacent roof sections.
Fold the base inward and glue it to the tabs provided.
  • Gather your decorative roof pieces and curl them inward. Match them up with the six sections of the roof and attach.
Add some decorative ribbon for extra embellishment, and your English garden paper lantern is complete!

Notes

When assembled, this project is about 4" wide, 3" deep, and 6.25" tall.

I am so pleased with how this project came together! I just couldn’t help but add more and more little details to it as I was assembling the pieces. By the time I decided to add all of the little white flowers to the foliage, I already had most of the greenery attached. I’m glad I did, though, because I think they really help the greenery stand out.
